Hey,

I know that Dark Star Orchestra often performs exact Dead set lists from virtually all eras. Does anyone know if they ever performed 10-29-77 from DeKalb, Ill. and if it's available here on the LMA?

Thanks.

GC

I would like to see DSO do some original songs. They are a grate tribute band but sometimes they don't do Jerry justice with their covers. Especially songs like So Many Roads where Jerry usually poured his heart out. DSO's verssions always seemthe lack that "kick". I like bands like Rocks from the Garden, The Zen Tricksters and Reckoning. Probably the 3 best band out of New York who mix fine originals with some GD. It is amazing however. Bands like DSO, The Garden, The Tricksters really help to make sure the Grateful Deads music will never stop! LOL!

I agree with you.I saw DSO at Mulchays in Wantagh New York last year. It is grate they are playing GD and playing it well. But I have seen them duplicate shows, then go listen to the GD and it doesn't compare. Gimme The Tricksters or The Garden any time. Reckoning is so so. All the bands I mentioned have one thing in common. TOP NOTCH TALENT! Especially the lead female singer from RFTG. Pipes galore! Peace

Hey grendal - DSO performed that show on 11/14/03, but i don't see it here on the archive unless the 13th and 15th that are here are mislabeled. That would be a great show and a great addition to the archive.

Thanks! We need to get that sucker up on here somehow...

(BTW, I've only seen them once, and was duly impressed, although a little creeped out by how much the rhythm guitar player not only sounds--but LOOKS-like Weir! I find them really interesting in that they seem to have devoted their entire careers to covering one band, and meticulously so...) not a bad choice if you ask me...just a little, well, strange...

yeah, i agree. i've seen them only a couple of times and it can get really weird at times. i have closed my eyes while boogeying on a couple of occasions and when they hit an area where they sound virtually exactly like GD, it is like a jolt to the soul being thrown back to the good ol' days - a very very weird feeling.
if you haven't downloaded their acoustic shows, DO SO. (08-31-04,11-12-04, 11-13-04, 11-14-04). Those are scarily awesome!!

Hey deadbuck - i wasn't completely accurate with the "south shore" issue, but close. I am in the Attleboro area - not too far from you as the crow flies - probably a halfhour out if i take the lovely route 106 :) Looks like we are pseudo-neighbors

Cool - i am slowly putting together a catalogue of all the shows i have (dead and otherwise). time consuming, but necessary since i have no idea what i have anymore unless its in my cd changer. i should have a list together over the next couple of weeks - right now my kids and my racquetball league seem to be eating up lots of time (never mind my job). would love to exchange info or even get together for beer or two some night since we are pretty close by :)

You could arrange for trades and then upload them- that would be a great way to help!
